Hi Kev! Thanks. Don’t know if I can summarize the concept in one sentence. But the main difference is that Collaboration requires a Token which is not necessary in Cooperation. I think you’re forcing these terms. RTCE is simultaneous already. Users actively work on the same document “cooperatively” and “collaboratively”. Perhaps you can distinguish the two in one sentence to be very clear about this.

HDMI cables are digital so it is all or nothing on the connection itself. Artifact on the image may mean corrupted data transmission or corrupted data decoding.

In which case you either have a faulty cable or a faulty tv, I would look into the cable first (as it is easier).

My problem is that if I connect my computer to the HDMI cable it looks bad… if I connect thru the VGA or HDMI it looks great… I tried with 2 different computers… may it be my HDMI cable?

El simulador de Surface viene incluido en el SDK. Si sos estudiante universitario y tu facultad es parte del MSDN Academic Alliance, lo tenés disponible para bajar. Consultá con tu facultad o con la gente de Académica de Argentina de Microsoft.

Respecto a las aplicaciones de Windows 7 multitouch, si las aplicaciones fueron hechas usando la API Touch de Windows 7 y la compu tiene Windows 7, no hay problema con el hardware del monitor.

Hola,muy bueno todo esto. Yo recien empiezo y la verdad que hasta me da verguenza preguntar jaja, pero bueno, por algun lado se empieza.
Me gustaria saber un poco sobre el simulador de surface, el que ustedes mostraron en la presentaion.
se puede bajar?
otra cosita, las aplicaciones para win 7 multitouch se pueden probar en cualquier monitor multitouch?

@Genaro Hola Genaro! Esta semana voy a armar un post para explicar cosas que quedaron fuera en la charla sobre Surface y su SDK y ahondar un poco más sobre el desarrollo de aplicaciones multitouch en Windows Presentation Foundation, que seguramente es lo que estás buscando. Stay tuned!

Hola, yo estuve en CodeCamp el sabado pasado, y estuve en su charla de surface, muy interesante por cierto.
Estuve hablando con Mauro con respecto a la utilizacion de las aplicaciones que se le pueden dar a surface para meterlas en cualquier computadora multitactil. Y quedamos en que me iba a pasar algun codigo posible para poder “mentirle” a la maquina de eso. Es posible que me lo pasen?
Otra cosita, yo no soy experto en programacion, recien empiezo. Como hago para bajarme el simulador de surface y poder programar eso mismo? otra cosa, si recien empiezo, que me recomienda que lea para programar en surface?

We as computer scientist have bias, we enjoy forcing structure where sometimes there isnt . And we have to be very careful how that structure (let’s call them abstractions) play out in the wild. Sebastian is one of those that enjoys putting labels to everything, he needs to name everything and struggles to put structure everywhere. That is more or less a response to my usual comments (to him) that we have to be very careful when structuring information. So he decided to disclaim his bias beforehand, as he is arguing that the basic “collaboration” word is not enough to specify the co-operative actitude toward information authoring/structuring.

Hi sim-sim,

As Seba told me that you are translating the blog entries into russian, I will try to explain in detail the phrases… You can also add this comments as references too, to explain a little better the context.

OT = Operational Transformation. There are several approaches to perform the transformation required to allow several parties to modify a shared state data structure; one of those is the Operational Transformation. Nonetheless there are also quite a few OT Frameworks arround, in the sense that the operational transformation functions are useless without a Operational Transformation Framework (dOpt is just one of those). There are also extra issues to keep in mind, as where do you perform the Operational Transformation (in a client, in a server, in both?). So basically what we are saying here is that you are free to embed the OT Framework (including the transformation) to be done directly by your application as if it were a server in itself. I have been working on this quite some time, so to me is pretty clear, did it makes sense?

If you have entered the security tab from the .xap file, you just need to set Deny to you “Build Services” (that is the build agent name).

Sorry, to bug, but I could not find an entry to my Build Agent in security. Just an entry for Build Services. I also checked on Buld services and it has no members. So, I am still puzzled how to deny access to the build Agent using the Security Tab.

@Daniel Hi Daniel! Thank you very much for your comment. For us, your work at AppJet with Etherpad is great and you know it by now because of the mention that Google made in the Wave whitepaper. Regarding your question, please, refer to the following paragraph:

It is true that in the community, the concept Real-Time Collaboration is widespread as a subtype of collaborative applications, and these could be confused with our Co-Operative Applications. This Wikipedia article describes the cases of real-time editors. Please, take the time to read and test the application examples listed, very few fall within the concept proposed here as Co-Operation. We believe that Google Wave is one of the exponents of this paradigm of applications, so defined. For some years it has been SubEthaEdit and more recently Etherpad, among others. Very few. Certainly less than needed.

In the other hand, we chose not to call this breed of application as "really real-time collaboration apps" simply because we think that this could be confusing for users. We believe that co-operation is the most appropriate because it evokes the metaphor of people working on the same artifact at the same time. For us, Etherpad is one of the first applications that encourage the creation and sharing of knowledge and, as you may know, we believe that we are in the very dawn of this age. beWeeVee, the technology that we are developing from Corvalius, is part of this kind of technology also.
